Midnight Devotional: My First Exhibition
Midnight Devotional
My First Exhibition
For the last two months I have had this art portrait exhibited with the rest of the Lafayette Photographic Society Moody Blues exhibition and competition. Last month it was at the Lafayette Art Association and this month it has been hanging at the Lafayette Consolidated Government building.
The portrait was a personal project made for the exhibition. I wanted to try something different; I have never exhibited any of my work, so this was quite the first for me. I selected a photograph that I thought would be suitable for the “Moody Blues” theme and worked diligently to take it from a photograph to an art piece.
I named it "Midnight Devotional," and it is a digital art portrait of Boone, owned by Kevin and Charmaine Borne. It was printed 16x20 on canvas--the first large-size portrait I have done. At the competition, it didn't place-- and that's okay. LPS members exhibited beautiful, strong work. I am so happy for the winners because I love our club and share in the pride of their successes. I was proud of Midnight Devotional too, because otherwise, I wouldn’t have stepped outside my box—both by exhibiting and printing large.
To my surprise, I learned yesterday that Midnight Devotional was purchased off the wall at LCG! I am over-the-moon happy that someone saw the portrait hanging and that it spoke to that person in some way. It's an incredible feeling to connect with a stranger through your art—knowing that something you created, that you value, has value to someone else.
So I feel like I have learned a lesson—value your new efforts, always. Value them in success and in failure. You may find that someone else values them too.
