Olanui

I was thrilled when Lori, an incredibly talented local photographer asked me to take photos of her Boerboel, Olanui (or Nui for short). Lori is an amazing senior and family photographer that you simply must check out: https://www.facebook.com/lorilymanphotography/. Needless to say, I was a little nervous! We did these photos in the comfort of Nui’s home. I find that works best because the dog is already in an environment that is comfortable to them. Adding the accoutrements of photography (lights, umbrellas, background stands, paper, and the camera) can be overwhelming in an unfamiliar setting. But being in the place you call home makes it a little less scary for a pup.

Nui herself is an older girl, so we chose to accent her with pearls. Nothing quite says “a distinguished lady” like pearls. Not only did Nui have no problem with dressing up, but she loved the backgrounds—getting quite relaxed and picture perfect on each color that we set up. I brought cheese, and Lori had these fun cookies that Nui adored, so getting her focus was an easy task.

I really enjoyed all the different colors; particularly the yellow, pink, and purple. They are bold, adventurous choices that I personally love, and I’m so happy Lori chose them.

It was such a treat to meet Nui. I had never met a Boerboel. Of course she is beautiful (I’m a sucker for any brindle), but I also loved her personality. She is loyal to her family, incredibly gentle, and has a calm, deep presence about her. It is obvious why she is so well loved by her owners.
